Wild Field
2025 / Outreach
This workshop by the Greek dance artist Maria Mavridou invites dancers and physical performers to dive into an intense one day laboratory of real time composition practice.
Maria's approach highlights and supports physical and mental alertness, choice, listening, individual and collective responsibility towards a shared work. She holds space for play, exposure, risk, experimentation and adventure.
The day is divided in two parts : During the first part Maria will share a movement practice, including voice, hands-on work and games aimed to playfully challenge ones physical and mental limits and bring the participants in a state of availability and alertness.
The second part of the day focuses on real time composition. Maria uses games and simple scores to prepare the group to play in an open format and practice composing in real time. The work asks to engage while taking responsibility for being simultaneously performer, maker and witness of a shared creation. Participants are invited to collaborate, make choices and take risks. Messiness, Chaos, Contradiction, Not knowing are part of it and "mistakes" give birth to something. Be welcome to dive in and give permission for something to happen.
"The workshop takes inspiration from various sources: Real Time Composition studies with Katie Duck, Body Weather practice transmitted to me by Frank van de Ven and Katerina Bakatsaki, movement/ choreographic research developed within the platform Dangerous Mouses and my collaboration with dancer /choreographer Malgorzata Haduch. Additional influences and inspiration stem from the work of Andrew Morrish and David Zambrano, yet mostly, it is the participants and the interaction with them that creates new content and makes things move." - Maria Mavridou
