Salzburg Improvisation Research Lab is a space for practitioners of Improvisation to come together, share experiential knowledge with one another, spend intensive, focused time on research in Instant Composition in the city of Salzburg.

The first edition of Salzburg Improvisation Research Lab took place in Salzburg city from the 10th to the 15th of June, 2022 at Toihaus Theater. 

Eight artists from disciplines of dance, music & performance were invited through an Open Call.

The lab focused on studying various aspects of instant composition such as time, space, object and the relationship between these elements. 

The lab was divided into two parts:

- Morning practice, where three hours each day one of the participating members will share their knowledge with the rest of the group.

- Research afternoons, where the group works for three hours in creating improvised pieces in the studio and examines them collectively, in order to draw comprehensive observations about their practice.

On day 6, the performers created three short performative interventions in various constellations in Art Hotel Blaue Gans, Kollegienkirche & Zwerglgarten in Mirabell Garden.
