Manifesto

2022 / Research

Manifesto is a research project by Nayana Keshava Bhat about resistance, spontaneity and flow, for which she was awarded the "Annual Fellowship Prize for Performing Arts - Dance & Performance" by the Federal State of Salzburg in 2022.

In this prolonged artistic research, Nayana collaborated with five performers from the disciplines of dance, music and performance, on the act of resistance against the inner pressure of productivity, the revolt against one's own urge for perfection, the pushing back of acceleration. Through this research, she intended to reveal an inner negotiation process in which the artists enter into a dialogue with their inner narratives in order to make proactive, conscious decisions.

The participating artists were Chris Dahlgren (Viola da Gamba), Verena Pircher (dance), Jordina Millà (prepared piano), Natalia Castaneira (dance) and Almut Kühne (voice)

The research took place throughout 2022 and parts of 2023, during which several outputs were shared with the public. A film documentation by Romanian Filmmaker Mircea Sorin Albutiu on the research process, along with written manifestos by the participating artists, were shared as exhibition at the Kerzenmacherei in 2022, and later at Toihaus Theater & Traklhaus, 2023, la Dama di Capestrano, Italy, 2024.

A performance trio titled " An improvisational manifestation", with Chris Dahlgren, Agnes Distelberger (dance) and Olivia Mitterhuemer (dance) was presented at SIE Open Stage in June 2023.
