In October 2022, choreographer Nayana Keshava Bhat began a multidisciplinary artistic research project under the title “Manifesto”. Two stages of research and development were conducted in 2022 in collaboration with artists Chris Dahlgren (Viola da Gamba), Verena Pircher (dance), Jordina Millà (Piano) and Natalia Castaneira (dance).
A compilation of this research under the title “In between moments..- Making of a Manifesto” was shared publicly through a 5-day exhibition of film, photographs and text material at Kerzenmacherei, Salzburg.
This particular exhibition is about following the thread of an idea, an impulse and thereby unravelling a universe. Being authentic, transparent. In this process, the fragility, the freedom and the constraints of improvisation are being reflected upon by the artists involved.
About the umbrella project
Manifesto is a research on resistance, spontaneity and flow; an act of resistance against internal pressure for being productive, a revolt against one’s own drive to be perfect, a pushback from speeding up.
This project is the choreographer’s response to the speed of modern life and a need to reconcile the disruption it brings to her own internal pace of being. Through this research, she wants to lay bare an internal process of negotiation, wherein the artists dialogue with their inner-narratives in an effort towards proactive, aware choice-making. The choreographer views this effort as of artistic value and intends to translate it into performance at a future time.
